NCAA - College Athletics

If your child has aspirations of competing athletically at an NCAA Division 1 or Division II school, they must meet NCAA Initial-Eligibility minimum standards including GPA, standardized test scores and core courses taken in high school.

All student-athletes also must meet the unique acceptance requirements of the college or university they plan to attend (which may exceed NCAA standards).

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) www.ncaa.org has three divisions:
  • Division I and II offer scholarships
  • Division III is non-scholarship

For NCAA Divisions I and II,
  • Download and read the Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete on the NCAA website.
  • Students must register directly with the NCAA Eligibility Center, preferably at the start of junior year.
  • At the end of 10th grade and at the end of 11th grade, send an official transcript to the Eligibility Center. Send official ACT/SAT scores.
  • Clearing House will approve and verify: High School Graduation, Core Courses, ACT/SAT sum scores, GPA
  • Clearing House will determine if you can practice, play or receive an athletic scholarship
  • Clearing House will determine if you have amateur status
  • Student should work to ensure they are meeting all academic eligibility requirements.
  • Work with your counselor if you have any questions regarding NCAA.
