New Student Orientation

CRITERIA FOR A ZERO PERIOD CLASS 

A student must have an impacted schedule to obtain a zero period. Examples are:

  • AVID Program

  • SOCSA Program 

  • HMO Program

  • ASU 

  • Language Immersion Program

  • Honors World History (must be pre-approved to take Honors English I)

 

MATH PLACEMENT INFORMATION

Math placement exam – For students entering 9th grade ONLY from a private or school outside CUSD!
 
Students who wish to enroll in accelerated math courses (Geometry and Algebra II/Trig Accelerated) during 9th grade will be required by the CUSD to take a math placement exam; regardless of grades received in their math class during 8th grade.
  • If you took Algebra I during 8th grade and wish to promote to Geometry, you will be required to take the Algebra I math final exam. 
  • If you took Geometry in 8th grade and wish to promote to Honors Algebra II/Trig, you will be required to take the Geometry math final exam.
 
All exams will be administered by District math personnel at the Capistrano Unified School District Education Center.  The District Office is located at 33122 Valle Road, San Juan Capistrano, 92675; (949) 234-9200.

SCHOOL OF CHOICE (SOC)

Parents of district students (CUSD) who would like their child to attend a school other than the school serving their neighborhood, should follow the process outlined under School of Choice. The application window is January, 2022 - March 4, 2022.

ATHLETICS

AVID

AVID is a nationally recognized program designed to help bright, motivated students in their completion of college-prep coursework while in high school, in hopes that these students will be able to gain acceptance to 4-year colleges or universities directly from high school. 2022-2023 applications can be found here.
 

HEALTH AND MEDICAL OCCUPTIONS ACADEMY (HMO)

The HMO Academy is a state funded academy designed for students who want to pursue a career in the health field.  Only incoming freshmen may apply to be in the HMO Academy. Applications are here. Applications are due by April 29, 2022.
 

PEP SQUAD

Incoming Freshmen interested in Pep Squad need to fill out an application and submit to Mrs. Lee. Applications can be found here. Applications are due by 3:30 pm March 28, 2022.
 

SOUTH ORANGE COUNTY SCHOOL OF THE ARTS (SOCSA)

SOCSA is a visual and performing arts academy for students within the Capistrano Unified School District who have special interests and potential for creativity.  Applications can be found here

TWO WAY IMMERSION

Our Two Way Immersion - Spanish (TWIS) Program has the goal of preparing our language students to achieve high level proficiency in two languages (English and Spanish), along with academic biliteracy, critical thinking skills, bicultural awareness and sensitivity and appreciation.
